Oleksandr Usyk prevailed against Mairis Briedis after an enthralling World Boxing Super Series clash in Riga in which the WBO and WBC titles were both at stake. Here is how Callum Rudge from Boxing Monthly's Below The Belt podcast saw the fight...

Rd 1: Lively opener here, Usyk using his jab and dominating the first 90 seconds but Briedis landing his right hand a lot in the second half of the round.
Briedis 10-9

Rd 2: Another cracking round, Briedis came out of the traps and noticeably buzzed Usyk at the start of the round but as it progressed Usyk started to land some great shots. Tough to score but an Usyk round for me.
Usyk 10-9

Rd 3: Usyk cut just above the eye from an accidental headbutt and looked slightly rattled afterwards. Briedis is giving as good as he is getting here but just Usyk for me in that round.
Usyk 10-9

Rd 4: Another fantastic round where Briedis starts very fast and again buzzed Usyk, the pace slowed towards the end of the round but definitely a Briedis round.
Briedis 10-9

Rd 5: Briedis starts well again but he quickly tires and Usyk goes on to dominate the round. Briedis with some damage to the nose and he already looks tired. An Usyk round, the most clear round so far.
Usyk 10-9

Rd 6: Usyk came out strong to start, trying to stalk Briedis and was successful for the most part, Briedis had some brief success but another Usyk round for me.
Usyk 10-9

Rd 7: A slight dip in the pace here with both fighters scoring little flush shots but Usyk had some success towards the end of the round. So probably just the Ukrainian's round.
Usyk 10-9

Rd 8: Usyk continuing to stalk the Latvian and, while he’s not landing anything massive, he’s slowly taking the fight out of Briedis. Possibly could have given another round or so to Briedis but no doubt Usyk is ahead here.
Usyk 10-9

Rd 9: What a round that was, and what heart shown by Briedis who decided to stay in the pocket and box Usyk up close. Briedis landed some cracking shots on the inside but Usyk didn’t blink.
Briedis 10-9

Rd 10: Another great round here and Briedis is dragging himself back into this, landing flashy combinations on the inside. While Usyk has his successes, it’s a Briedis round for me.
Briedis 10-9

Rd 11: Usyk got back to stalking Briedis at the start of the round and has marked Briedis up noticeably. Briedis landed some good shots but shipped some straight lefts towards the end. An Usyk round.
Usyk 10-9

Rd 12: A slow start to the round with Briedis doing little, but after landing a big right hand he attempts to walk Usyk down. Usyk boxed well going backwards and takes the round for me.
Usyk 10-9

Verdict: A superb fight, I scored it 116–112 to Usyk. While Briedis had success early on and in some of the late rounds, I thought the Ukrainian dominated the middle rounds and was the deserved winner. There were some tight rounds however and the official scorecards were tight (115-113, 115-113, 114-114) but also fair.
