Boxing Monthly’s World and British Rankings for April 2016 are explained by Colin Harris, our in-house ratings statistician. Trainer, fighter, manager and promoter queries are welcome (ratings up to and including 5 March results).

WORLD ROUND-UP  

Heavyweight: Ortiz won (now 25-0-0-2) and we do a swap with our number 8 as Chagaev, who is dropped, lost to new WBA champion Lucas Browne (24-0).  Cruiserweight: Huck won (now 39-3-1) and rises to 3rd.  Afolabi is dropped, Bellew and McKenzie each rise a spot and Wlodarczyk (now 50-3-1) comes in at tenth. Light-heavyweight: No changes.  Super-middleweight:  Sturm won (now 40-5-3-1) over Chudinov (now 14-1) to become WBA champ, and they switch places in 8th and 9th accordingly.  Middleweight: No changes.  Super-welterweight:  Williams won (now 22-0-1-1) and moves up to 5th in our only change. Welterweight:  Jessie Vargas wins (now 27-1) the WBO title and comes in at 9th, pushing Mikhaylenko down to 10th and Peterson out. 

Super-lightweight: Crawford won (now 28-0) but we have no changes.  Lightweight: No changes.  Super-featherweight: In our only change, we drop Jason Sosa from tenth and replace him with Jessie Magdaleno (now 23-0).  Featherweight:  Santa Cruz won (now 32-0-1) and moves up to second, shuffling Russell Jr and Selby down a spot each.  Gradovich is dropped from tenth for Oscar Escandon (now 25-2). Super-bantamweight: Frampton (now 22-0) beat Quigg (now 31-1-2) to add the WBA to his IBF strap, while Quigg falls to 5th.  New WBC champ Hugo Ruiz (now 36-3) comes in at 4th, while ex-champ Ceja is dropped.  Pagara won (now 26-0) and goes to 6th, Wake won (now 20-4-2) and goes to 7th, Vargas won (now 26-0) and stays 8th, with Servania dropping to 9th and Flores staying 10thBantamweight: Yamanaka won (now 25-0-2) over Solis (now 23-4-1).  Sor Singyu won (now 52-3) and rises to 6th.  As Solis drops to 9th we see Haskins move to 7th with Tapales 8th, and Warren is dropped in favour of Sor Rungvisai (now 46-6-1) who rejoins us in 10thSuper-flyweight: Narvaez won (now 45-2-2) but no actual changes.  Flyweight: No changes.  Light-flyweight: Kimura (now 18-3-1) loses the WBC titles to Ganigan Lopez (now 27-6) who joins us in 4th, under Yaegashi who rises to 3rd.  Kimura drops to 5th with Guevara dropping to 6th and Fuentes 7th.  Rodriguez Jr won (now 18-4-1) and climbs to 8th, with Mendoza and Melindo dropping to 9th and 10th respectively.  Kokietgym lost and is dropped from our rankings. Minimumweight: Menayothin won (now 41-0) but no actual changes. 

BRITISH ROUND-UP 

Heavyweight: Sexton won (now 22-3) but we have no changes.  Cruiserweight:  Tony Conquest retired, so Bennett moves up to 9th and Jack Massey (9-0) comes in at 10th.   Light-heavyweight: Ajisafe is no longer British champion and Dickinson is dropped for inactivity. Burton won (now 15-0) and became new British champion when beating Shinkwin (now 12-1) – Burton goes to 3rd, Shinkwin stays 4th and everyone else shuffles-up a place.  Summers won (now 11-0) and we bring in Tony Dodson (now 32-8-1) as our new number ten.  Super-middleweight: No changes.  Middleweight:  Taylor vacated the English title, Matthews won (now 16-0-1), but we have no actual changes.  Super-welterweight: No changes.  Welterweight: Skeete won (now 23-1) over Sam Eggington (now 17-3) and took the British/Commonwealth titles.  Mucha won (now 12-0) and move up to 7th pushing Witter down to 8th, and Singleton also won (now 22-1). 

Super-lightweight: No changes, but Johnny Coyle gave up the Southern Area title.  Lightweight: No changes.  Super-featherweight: No changes.  Featherweight: Lowe (now 12-0-1) became Commonwealth champion when beating McCullough (now 14-3): Lowe rises to 4th, McCullough drops to 10th.  Jones won (now 21-5-1).  Super-bantamweight: Frampton (now 22-0) beat Quigg (now 31-1-2) to unify the WBA/IBF titles.  McDonnell won (now 15-0-2) & Martin Ward won (now 23-3-1).  Gamal Yafai (pictured) won (now 9-0) over Jenkinson (now 9-2-1) and took the Commonwealth title, rising to 5th in our ratings.  Economides is dropped from tenth in place of new English champion Sean Davis (9-0).  Bantamweight: Burnett won (now 13-0), Cunningham won (now 18-3) and became new English champion.  Leach won (now 7-1), Lane lost (now 6-7-2) to Cunningham.  Super-flyweight: Yafai won (now 18-0) and goes first over Butler.  Wilson also won (now 9-1).  Flyweight: Butcher won (now 13-2) and Edwards won (now 7-0) but we have no actual changes.
