Former light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal reflects to Chris Glover on his victory against Marcus Browne last weekend, as he eyes another world title shot...
Jean Pascal rolled back the years on Saturday evening, as the former WBC light heavyweight champion emerged victorious via a technical decision against the talented and previously undefeated New Yorker Marcus Browne.
Back in 2010 Pascal beat Chad Dawson to claim the WBC version of the 175lbs title, and the Haitian weighed in on his victory against Browne and his plans to regain a world light heavyweight title.
Pascal said, “Firstly I want to thank my team for getting me this opportunity and preparing me correctly to show that I am still at the top of the light heavyweight division.
“I’ll give Marcus the rematch but my goal is to become a world champion again and I believe I can do that once again. I am still improving at this age and I am still in tremendous condition.
”I want to fight all of the world champions out there at the moment. It really doesn't matter to me who is in the other corner. I proved to the world once again what a dangerous fighter I am and a fighter that is going to be world champion again.”
After defeating Dawson, Pascal lost to an ageless master in the form of Bernard Hopkins. The Canadian based light heavy, who once contested world super-middleweight titles, assessed the differences between the Hopkins fights and now.
He said, “I am a lot more mature now and that maturity showed against Marcus Browne who is an excellent fighter. I stuck to the game plan and picked my shots and that’s what you have to do if you want to become a champion.
“I think I lost those fights all those years back because of myself and if I could turn back time I wouldn’t make the same mistakes again. I wouldn’t get involved emotionally and would use my skills to win fights like I did last weekend.
”The experience of being a fighter that everyone wants to fight though has helped me to get to this stage of my career where now I can regain the position at the top I once had.”
